At Shorty's we don't have disclaimers, but I have had a couple reports of the canes like the one to the left of shrinking as the wood cured. The Brass tips I install on every cane to prevent splinting have become loose. If I have made you a cane and the brass that the rubber tip slides over moves or comes loose, please send it back to me and I will drill a brass pin into it and secure it forever. I will mail it back to you at no cost! I am sorry if your cane is one of these but as wood drys it will recede a bit, but not enough to weaken it. Thank you Donald Short

just click on the tab"What others have to say" The pirate ship to the right of the page
was a request from a 7 year old boy as he was watching "Pirates of the Caribbean" I thought about my own childhood
and thought "Cool". I cut down the Chinese Tallow tree that had been bugging me and started peeling the bark off
the trunk! Results a Black Pearl bank. I hollowed it out and put a slot on the Hold lattice lid
for coins and pieces of eight. The flag in the rear or Stern as I am told lifts up and the Captains windows come out to plunder
the bank loot!
I
not only carve toys; but yard ornaments, wall hangings, signs and name plaques, sporting symbols, walking sticks and canes
and even special boxes and furniture. I have even repaired antique furniture. I know it looses value to a collector, but as
a keepsake it's invaluable! I love challenges and sometimes surprise myself! Many times the grain of the wood dictates
to me the end product. Mother nature has her own art!
Please take a look at some of my "Past Projects."
This is an example of contrast! This is a Crucifix necklace or Rosary requested by Angel, one of my fellow mailmen. Three inches tall.
This is an example
of some of the furniture I can make. I really enjoy carving more, because
I have a short span of attention and furniture has to be planned out
and cut to size. This was an order from a young lady; My wife, for
a Christmas present. Although I do have modern tools most of what I have done was with old hand tools, saw, plane, and knife. I am done two weeks before Christmas!
A wife of a marathon runner wanted to get a lamp depictiting a runner. She found golfer, fisherman, even a firefighter
but she came to Shorty's Shop for a carving of a runner. Check out my past projects page!
The picture to the right was my first attempt of Polynesian art. Mat wanted the God of War "KU" to adorn his apartment
in Hawaii. He is going to take him around the Island and introduce him to the other gods!
I was asked if I could
make a 6 foot tall totem pole now in Las Vegas.
The clock is an odd collectors item! A German
made clock with Mandarin Chinese numerals now encased in an American made wooden setting! Some times I get confused!
I also do repairs on furniture, wooden and many hand made items as well as forge and make knives
